MGI Worldwide has admitted Plus Accounting, an independent Brighton chartered accountancy practice of about 60 staff, into its network, taking MGI's presence across the UK and Ireland to 32 offices, a move that matters broadly because it adds technology, gaming and creative industry capability to a regional network, and matters specifically to accountancy professionals because it shows independent practices gaining international reach through network membership without giving up ownership.

MGI Worldwide is a London-headquartered international accounting network of almost 9,000 independent accountants, auditors and tax experts in some 400 locations worldwide, ranked among the top 20 networks.

Plus Accounting is a Brighton-based, B Corp certified practice led by three directors, offering tax advice, audit and assurance, outsourcing and business advisory services, with a focus on technology, video game development and the digital and creative industries, alongside owner-managed businesses in property, construction, hospitality, food and drink and professional services.

Jake Standing, business services and tax director at Plus Accounting, said the practice will keep its operational independence and direct client service while extending the expertise and connections available to clients, and hopes to share its experience as a certified B Corp.

The sector focus is commercially significant. The UK video games industry generates 12 billion pounds (about 14 billion euros) in gross value added and supports more than 73,000 jobs.

It is also tax-heavy work. UK studios can claim a Video Games Expenditure Credit worth 34 per cent of qualifying core costs, equivalent to 25.5 per cent after corporation tax, a claim most studios prepare with specialist advisers rather than in-house.

The structure matters too. Network membership offers a third route alongside private equity roll-ups and partner-led mergers: a practice keeps its own ownership and client relationships while drawing on shared technical resources, which suits owner-led firms wary of selling. The addition also brings a corporate responsibility dimension to the network, as Plus has held B Corp certification since August 2024.

For the sector, MGI's addition of a specialist, independent practice shows networks competing for firms on expertise and autonomy, not only on scale.
