At the helm of this year’s rigorous and respected judging process was John Gaynor, a seasoned educator, practitioner, and passionate advocate for the accounting profession.
A Voice for Progress in Accountancy Education
John Gaynor currently serves as Programme Chair and Lecturer on the BA in Accounting at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo, where he plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of accountants. With over 15 years’ experience in both practice and industry, John brings a rare blend of technical insight and real-world understanding to both his teaching and his work with the Awards.
John's dedication to professional education goes far beyond the classroom. He actively encourages both students and qualified accountants to continuously upskill in a rapidly evolving business environment. Through his work with professional bodies, John helps deliver vital training and conferences at ATU Sligo, ensuring the Irish accountancy profession remains agile, relevant, and future-ready.
Leadership Through Service
John’s contributions extend well into the professional and civic spheres. He has served an impressive nine years on ACCA Committees, including as ACCA Ireland Chair in 2017, and currently chairs the resource oversight committee at the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT). His previous role on NIBRT’s audit and risk committee reflects a longstanding commitment to governance and accountability.
Beyond his professional commitments, John is a dedicated community volunteer, supporting organisations such as the Sligo Tourist Development Association, Sligo Academy of Music, Hawks Well Theatre, and the Summerhill College Alumni Board. His work exemplifies the values of service, integrity, and leadership that define the accountancy profession at its best.
