TC Group's Recruitment Accountants division has acquired Azuki Accounts, a Middlesex-based specialist finance provider for recruitment agencies, a deal that matters broadly because it deepens a niche accounting capability serving a sector with distinctive cash flow and margin pressures, and matters specifically to accountancy professionals because reforms due to remove abridged accounts from Companies House filings will soon expose the profit margins many recruitment agencies have historically kept private.

TC Group is a UK Top 20 business advisory and accountancy firm working with over 100 recruitment businesses through its Recruitment Accountants division, providing accounting, tax, payroll and outsourced back-office support tailored to the recruitment sector.

Azuki Accounts is a Middlesex-based specialist finance partner for recruitment agencies founded in 2016 by managing director Poonam Mawani, providing outsourced finance function support including pay and bill, bookkeeping, credit control and finance director-level insight.

Poonam Mawani described joining Recruitment Accountants as a really exciting step, saying clients gain access to wider specialist expertise while keeping the personal relationships they have always valued.

The timing matters because of a specific regulatory shift bearing down on the sector. Reforms under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, now expected to take effect from April 2028, will remove the option for small companies to file abridged accounts, forcing most to publish full profit and loss figures, including turnover and gross profit, on the public record for the first time.

For recruitment agencies specifically, gross profit per head is widely regarded as the most commercially sensitive number a firm holds, since clients negotiating rates and procurement teams currently lack visibility into an agency's margins during commercial discussions.

Once that figure becomes searchable by any client, competitor or supplier, agencies will need specialist advice on group structuring, available exemptions and how financial information is presented, precisely the kind of sector-specific expertise firms like Azuki and Recruitment Accountants already provide.

For the sector, this deal reflects a wider pattern: as public financial disclosure expands, sector-specialist accountants who understand exactly what a given industry's numbers reveal become more valuable, not less.
